Inaugurated by the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, the exhibition hosts more than 800 stalls by booksellers from across the country.
The third wave played spoilsport to the event which was supposed to take place in January with 1,000 stalls. With the numbers reducing due to Covid protocols. According to the organisers, the enthusiasm from book lovers was high with more than 40,000 tickets being sold even before the start of the show.
The chief minister, in his inaugural speech also announced that a library named after former chief minister M Karunanidhi was being set up in Madurai at a cost of Rs 114 crores, and the work on the project has already begun.
