Meerut publisher turns to printing to boost service

Meerut-based publisher of children's and guide books, Children Choice Publication, has installed a four-colour RMGT 924 ST press enabling the firm to a broader service approach. The 1996 established firm at present has a collection of 4,000 book titles, which it used to outsource before the RMGT 924 ST was brought in. In a week since its installation, the firm has printed 10-lakh impressions.

Arun Agarwal, the owner of Children, said, “With the investment, we have been able to maintain print quality and timely delivery to our key customers, both of which are essential to our core business.”

One of the key assets of any publisher is content, created in-house or acquired from others, which is ultimately curated and designed for printing. “The quality of presentation and the inherent value has to be protected. Today, this has become a challenge, hence the decision to bring printing in-house,” said Agarwal.

The RMGT 924 ST takes a maximum sheet size of 25x36inch, a thickness of up to 0.6mm and runs at a top speed of 16,200sph. “We took a look at few of the options, but for our requirement, the 924 was the best option, plus of course the print quality met our desired expectation.”

Other than the 924, Children has invested in a TechNova thermal CTP system and Electromac binding machines.

The company though has brought in-house only 25% of the print jobs. Agarwal said, “We are able to print about 1,000 titles on this machine, the rest is being outsourced. It’s still early days for us, but with the 924 have been able to partly control our publication business.”

Agarwal’s son Vipul helps him manage the publication business. Going ahead, he hopes to expand and bring the entire operation in-house. “Yes, we will invest at the right time. And not only meet our needs but also optimise cost.”
