Salem PrintPack installs Komori’s Advance UV press

On 21 August the Komori GL640 Advance UV press was inaugurated by N Gopalaratnam, chairman of Seshasayee Paper and Boards and the guest of honour Kasi Viswanathan, managing director of Seshasayee Paper Boards at the Salem PrintPack factory in Tamil Nadu.

Salem PrintPack (A division of Ashok Agencies) added the Komori GL640 Advance UV press to its lineup at the start of August. Prahal Saravanan of Salem PrintPack said, "To provide high quality and consistent packaging, we wanted a press with high automation and minimal human intervention and Komori was the most suitable choice."

The six-colour press represents an investment for Salem PrintPack’s promoters Saravana Kumar and Ashok Kumar, whose focus area is mono cartons and fluted cartons.

The brand new Komori GL640+C-UV Advance press comes with loads of features that enables quick turnaround of jobs in high quality. With the auto register function and cip3 integration in the PDC-X we are able to achieve quick make ready with minimal wastage. The SAPC, auto blanket wash and auto roll wash also comes in handy for quick changeovers and achieving high production.”

The 6.5 acre Salem PrintPack factory is located on the Salem-Coimbatore highway with a built-up area of 45,000 sq ft works two shifts from 6 am to 10 pm.

Saravanan said that every efficiency the company could make would help it reduce the costs it has to pass along to customers at a time of tightening margins.

Prahal Saravanan said, "The USP of the industry in Tamil Nadu is the capability of handling a variety of jobs which suits multiple industries." The company operates in the following verticals like FMCG, textiles, food, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, publishing as well as commercial printing.

Recently Salem PrintPack produced a quality job for a tea drink that included multiple processes from MetPet, UV matt, textured foiling and micro emboss. With the addition of the brand new GL 640+C-UV press, the company hopes to "have many more renowned customers across all spheres."

Other than the Komori L640, Salem PrintPack boasts of a Komori L240, die cutter and folder gluer from Brausse, a carton erection kit, a V-cut window patcher, foil stamper, Shoei folder, dry lamination and a flute laminator and a Kodak CTP kit. 

As Saravanan said, "We have had the experience of running a Komori 98 model machine for the past decade – and this has made us repose our faith in them."

Chakrapani Vemula, regional sales manager at Komori India (South) said, "We have a number of the new Komori presses installed in South India and there are many more on order. The Komori L640 with a coater at Salem PrintPack, which has new production features, is focused on high return on investment for our customers."
