PrintWeek Awards 2025: Brijbasi Art Press wins Innovative Printer of the Year (Paper / Paperboard / Corrugated)

Brijbasi Art Press, a first-time winner at the PrintWeek Awards, impressed the jury with its Dino and Space Massive Pop-Ups created for Todolivro Distribuidora. These titles highlight the company’s ability to merge machine precision with artisanal craftsmanship at scale, making it a standout in children’s publishing.

The project involved 5,000 copies of two titles, with design developed in Photoshop and Illustrator and colour separations carried out through Esko workflow before platemaking on TechNova violet plates. The four-colour (CMYK) printing was executed on a Ryobi 925 offset press, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Finishing included matte lamination on a Daya Printograph’s thermal lamination machine, along with glitter and spot UV effects.

Intricate die-cutting was achieved on a platen punching machine, with pop-up pasting, inside block assembly, and binding managed through meticulous manual processes. Case-making was performed on a Kolbus line, and cutting on a Wohlenberg 115.

The books, themed around dinosaurs and space exploration, featured layered scenes, hidden flaps, moving pop-ups, and interactive mechanisms that encouraged discovery and play. Achieving this required extensive prototyping, process refinement, and workforce training, supported by a 1,200-strong team and rigorous quality checks. The work has also earned recognition at international book fairs in Bologna, Frankfurt, and Ambiente.

The jury said the pop-up books “set a new benchmark for combining creativity with industrial scale,” praising Brijbasi for “bringing a traditionally niche craft into mainstream publishing without losing its magic”.
