“The first batch of training took place in November 2014 for the pre-press category and was for a duration of two months,” said Shivraj Shetty of Mangala Process and one of the catalyst for the institute.

“Shortage of skilled work force in the printing industry is a serious problem and TOPTEC we believe is the solution to this crisis,” he added.

In Rajajinagar Industrial Town, KOPA have their own building established - known as the ‘TOPTEC Building’ - which houses the KOPA secretariat and the training centre.

“The centre has a raft of machines installed: CTP system, printing press, cutting machine, perfect binders, folding machines etc. This is the main reason, hands-on training is provided with the aim to get them employed at our members’ organisation,” explained Shetty.

The pre-press curriculum covers topics ranging from fundamentals of pre-press processes and terminologies, PDF standards, basics of application software used in graphic industry, imposition techniques and software to integrated workflow software and basic JDF automation, RIP and RIP settings, colour management, calibration and profiling techniques, CTP machine (plate making) and maintenance etc.

“We have also started a course for press management from June 2015,” said Shetty.
