“The Executive committee members of KMPA have completed the first-round visit to our fellow members' whose businesses are affected by the floods. It was a shocking experience to see printing shop floors full of water and dirt, machines wet and dirty, with a huge stock of raw materials and finished goods completely destroyed. In a couple of instances, we felt choked up and eyes blurred with tears as we struggled to comfort friends of decades who has just lost pretty much everything that matters,” said R Gopakumar, president of KMPA in a letter to AIFMP.

“Another dimension to the crisis is the plight of the employees whose houses are damaged, some beyond repair, with the onus now resting on the employer to help them rebuild. The task ahead of our printer brothers is of herculean proportions. In order to bring them back to their feet as soon as possible, we need to assure them of our unstinting support,” he added.

According to the initial assessment, more than Rs 50 crore would be the accumulated loss of the printers of Kerala over the last one week.

Meanwhile, in his letter to affiliate associations, AMSG Ashokan, president of AIFMP highlighted that the ‘in the internal discussion of AIFMP OBs, with a majority view have decided to make a handsome contribution of Rs 10 lakhs as done in the past for J & K and Chennai flood victims.’

“Most transparent process of distribution of funds to most needy shall be followed as was done during J &K crisis. Incidentally, current VP (South) O Venugopal is from Kerala and is leading from the front. He will be the person-in-charge cum AIFMP representative to ensure just and proper distribution of funds,” he said.
