Haldiram's opts for Stelda at Nagpur and Noida factories

Haldiram's Nagpur factory selected a Stelda HC500 hot glue case-sealing machine in 2018 and installed that on their Chikki production-line. The initial objective was to study the benefit of this sealing method vis-a-vis taping, to prevent pilferage. After deploying the machine for more than a year, they opted for two more Steldas for their Rasgulla and Gulab Jamun lines.

Stelda worked with the packaging R&D team of Haldiram's to establish that the damages in transit comes down when the sealing method is changed. The tamper-evidence provided by the Stelda sealing helped Haldiram's remove the shrink wrapping done on the expensive product SKUs. The stats were impressive. Twenty cases per minute with Stelda Smart controls backed by a Nordson Problue melter with the latest technology low profile guns.

According to Ajinkya Gadge, the manager R&D the benefits of security against pilferage, strength against transit damages plus the sustainability factor - the 3S promise from Stelda, have been established internally.

"This has helped us receive more orders from the group, including a recently installed HC500 case sealer in Haldiram's Noida unit," said Suresh Nair, the director at Stelda Packaging, a subsidiary of the Impel-Welbound group.

A study done by Stelda in association with the research students from the IIT Roorkee Packaging department has established the fact that hot glue sealed boxes develop 60% more resistance to point loads in comparison to taped boxes. "This along with safety as per international standards - has been proven right. This can be seen from the experience of Haldiram's endorsement by their top management," said Nair.

The Stelda Case sealing machines have evoked good interest from the food, FMCG and engineering companies due to the benefits associated with better transit protection and sustainability.

"Supply chain logistics in India is very complex with at least six points of loading and unloading. Trucks tend to travel long distances and the distribution chain leading up to the retailer faces challenges like package drops, uneven loads, pilferage and so on. Stelda is providing services to understand if the brands are protected adequately to take these challenges. We often see either the shipper cartons are over engineered or there are huge losses in transit due to shrinkages and damages", summed up P Sajith, the managing director of Stelda Packaging.
