Target applications include layflat photobooks

The Germany-headquartered speciality paper firm described its new RubyPaper as “the first genuine photo paper for high-speed inkjet”, combining a photographic look with “outstanding process performance”.

RubyPaper is available in lustre and glossy finishes for water-based inkjet printing. Grammage options are 160- or 230-gsm, in sheet formats from 32x46-cm up to 50x70-cm.

Other sizes are available on request.

It is qualified to run at maximum press speed on Canon’s VarioPrint iX-series of sheetfed inkjet presses and Heidelberg’s Jetfire range, and also on Fujifilm’s Jet Press.

The paper is also available for use with Kyocera’s Nixka Belharra industrial photo printing line, which has a duty cycle of 10m-40m photos per year of 10x15cm format.

The RubyPaper for the Belharra is available in 250- and 300-gsm, in web widths of 89.1- and 101-mm.

It features a specially developed, fast-drying colour receiving layer that promises a wider colour gamut, enhanced details and edge sharpness, and “characteristic photographic feel”.

Hadrien Cottin, vice-president of sales for digital media, commented:  “High-speed inkjet has revolutionised production, but the emotional quality of the images has so far fallen short of what is possible.

“With our new photo paper, we are eliminating lamination as a quality- and process-limiting step.

“RubyPaper enables true photo paper quality on high-speed inkjet systems, at higher speeds and with significantly greater production efficiency.”

Felix Schoeller expects RubyPaper to be used for applications including photo prints, layflat photobooks, school and sports photography, and photo posters.

As well as photographic and digital printing papers, Felix Schoeller’s product range includes décor, packaging and sublimation papers.

The firm celebrated 130 years in business last year.
