What is Chemipearl?
Chemipearl is a particulate aqueous dispersion developed by Mitsui Chemicals. It is a unique product made of fine particles of polyolefins, previously considered extremely difficult to disperse in water. Compared with widely used aqueous dispersion techniques, Chemipearl is unique because it does not use emulsifying agents or organic solvents, making it highly environmentally friendly. The characteristics of polyolefins, such as its mechanical, water-resistant, and chemical-resistant properties, remain intact, making the product ideal for widespread use as printing ink additives, heat sealing for food packaging, adhesives and binders, and anti-blocking agents.

What does the Chemipearl do?
The Chemipearl S series provides excellent heat sealability with Al foil to Al foil, Al foil to paper and paper to paper application. It also provides water repellence, oil, and grease resistance for different kinds of paper packaging applications with FDA compliance.

Chemipearl A, M, V, W series provides abrasion resistance, improves slip properties and acts as anti-blocking additives in water-based printing ink and resin pellets.

What values do Mitsui Chemicals emphasise in developing Chemipearl?
Mitsui Chemicals prioritises sustainability and ecological preservation, ensuring safety through the Rose Value indices and minimising waste with the Blue Value standards.

What are some unique properties of Chemipearl?
Chemipearl seals at lower temperatures are solvent-free, facilitate fast-paced packaging, are lighter in weight, offer recyclability and repulpability with paper and paperboard. Chemipearl also provides abrasion-proof with excellent slip and anti-blocking properties precise because of its spherical particles with a narrow particle size distribution. (A, M, V, W types).

Which are the different variants of Chemipearl?
Chemipearl comes in different grades like A, M, S, V and W.

How do these variants differ from each other’s?
Chemipearl variants differ in terms of main RM, particle size, viscosity and softening point based on end application.

What are some other applications of Chemipearl?
Chemipearl has different grades; among the most popular ones is the S grade. This is commonly used on substrate including aluminium, paper and sealable with different plastic like PVC, PET, PS, PP etc. For instance, it is even used to seal paper-based packaging ranging from smaller sachets to corrugated boxes, cartons, and even paper cups. The adhesiveness and sealing keep Chemipearl apart from conventional sealing across the chemical industry; this also allows for easy packaging of items revolving around food. Type M, A and V are used as additive in water-based ink manufacturing industries and resin pellets for anti-blocking agent and for excellent rub-off resistance.

What is the target market(s)?
The target markets are flexible packaging and the pharmaceutical industry.

What was the thought process when the product was conceived?
The product was conceived to provide a green solution to the packaging industries and reduce VOC emissions into the environment.

When was the product launched?

In India, Chemipearl was launched in 2012 for the food packaging industries.

How can businesses benefit from adopting Chemipearl?
Businesses can reduce environmental impact, enhance product integrity, and save costs by incorporating Chemipearl into their packaging solutions, thus aligning with eco-friendly initiatives.

How does Chemipearl benefit the pharmaceutical industry?
Chemipearl offers the pharmaceutical industry a solvent-free, water-based sealing solution for PVC blister packaging with the replacement of solvent-based heat seal coating, reducing VOC emissions, improving packaging efficiency, and contributing to a sustainable future.

What kind of substrates can it handle?
Chemipearl is suitable for different types of paper, Al foil, and other metal substrates.

What is the USP of the product?
Chemipearl is unique because it does not use emulsifying agents or organic solvents, making it highly environmentally friendly.

How easy is it to use?
Chemipearl is ready to use customised products as per the application and can be used directly by customers without any further chemical mixing.

What training and support are on offer?
Mitsui Chemicals is not just a products supplier but also a solution provider company. We support our customers technically starting from product information to trial and training up-to successfully product establishment.
