Ahmedabad-based Pinmark Blocks is a third generation, technology driven, pre-press trade shop run by a team of knowledgeable technocrats.

Pinmark’s core strength is the flexo technology it deploys – conventional, digital, digital fast and KODAK FLEXCEL NX. Pinmark is the first trade shop in the country to install the KODAK FLEXCEL NX wide format system in 2011. It was also the second installation in the whole of Asia at the time.

“We were looking for better technology rather than looking for a particular brand. When we approached Kodak, they understood this need and offered us the KODAK FLEXCEL NX System,” Minesh Zaveri, director at Pinmark.

In 2018, Pinmark installed its second KODAK FLEXCEL NX System, this time the wider 5080 system.

Minimum dot size, maximum result

Zaveri, says, the KODAK FLEXCEL NX Technology is an advancement over the earlier technologies available in the market. “In the LAMS plate, you cannot image below a 5% dot. It will be an image, but it will not stay on the plate so one has to bump the dot to stay at 1%. That restricts the tonal range,” he says.
So, what’s different with the KODAK FLEXCEL NX technology? It is what I call the 1:1:1 technology, says Zaveri. “It’s 1% on the file, 1% on the plate and 1% in print,” he explains.

What’s the USP?

Kodak has one standard plate for digital flexography, the KODAK FLEXCEL NX Plate. And though it may seem to be an additional process, Zaveri says, you don’t have to perform frequent calibrations. “Just standardise, and you are done,” he concludes.
