Toyo Ink India celebrates second plant opening

Toyo Ink India inaugurated its second India plant in Dahej, Gujarat, from where it hopes to cater to greater demand from the domestic as well as international market, particularly Africa and Middle East.

Speaking to PrintWeek India on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony, Toyo Ink SC Holdings president and Toyo Ink Group CEO Katsumi Kitagawa, said,  “We will start manufacturing and sales of offset inks with capacity to produce 10,000 tonnes per annum, which is three times larger than the Noida plant.”

According to estimates, the total consumption of the offset, packaging, screen printing, special inks and coating in India is said to be in the region of 20,000 tonnes per month. The market, which was pegged at Rs 1,000-crore in 2002-03 has grown to an estimated Rs 3,500-crore in 2013-14.

“This is the second printing ink manufacturing facility that Toyo has set up after the first, which was founded in 2007. India represents tremendous opportunities for us both as a market and a strategic hub to cover overseas demand, particularly Africa and Middle East,” said Kitagawa.

The opening ceremony held on 8 July was attended by Japan’s Ambassador to India, His Excellency Takesai Yagi, other dignitaries from the Embassy, distinguished guests from the Japan External Trade Organisation and as well as Toyo official and its partners.

The 21,100 sq/metre production plant in Dehaj is built on a one-lakh sq/metre site. It has three divisions, the varnish division, the ink production and storage divisions.
 

BS Kampani, CEO and managing director, Toyo Ink India, who along with Team Toyo Ink India, was instrumental in finalising the location for the plant, said, the Indian team of Toyo will continue to scale new heights and add new milestones in the company journey in India.
 

Kampani said he expects India to grow rapidly, which will add to the factor in the decision to expand the activities of the plant. “As our president said, we hope to make this plant a comprehensive hub for producing resins, adhesives, coating as part of our second and third investment.”

Toyo Ink was set up in 1907 in Japan as a printing ink manufacturer. Since then it has grown to become a 70 group company entity spread across 20 countries employing 9,000 employees.

Toyo Ink India was founded in Greater Noida in 2007. The offset operation started in 2008, inkjet in 2011 and in 2012 it started making gravure inks for food packaging.
