The press has a print-width of up to 322mm (12.6in) and can handle media up to 350mm wide. The press can print at a top speed of 50m (164ft) per minute and up to 16.1m (173.3ft) per minute for a 350mm wide paper at a resolution of 600x600dpi. The machine is equipped with a four-step single-pass greyscale piezo printheads with a minimum droplet size of 3 picolitres, The press comes with advanced colour management technology based on Screen’s EQUIOS universal workflow bundled as part of a standard package with the press. The machine can handle a media thickness of 0.09mm to 0.35mm.

To provide a wider colour gamut than is typical with the four-colour process, the Truepress Jet L350UV uses Screen’s proprietary high-definition UV inks. Optional opaque white ink, which the company states will be part of the press by first quarter of 2014, boosts colour vibrancy and enhances application versatility by allowing printing on transparent film and metallic foil. Brian Filler, president, Screen Europe also confirmed that the machine will soon be available with LED curing and double whites.

In addition, lamination, die cutting and other post-press processing devices can be connected inline to automate label production from beginning to end. The press is engineered as either a roll-to-roll press for near-line finishing, or with the ability to feature automated in-line finishing such as lamination, die-cutting, foiling, coating and embossing etc. Filler, however, clarified that the option to have inline connected finishing systems would be available since the second quarter of 2014.

Asked if the late entry of Screen to the digital inkjet label printing market would give its competition an edge, Filler said, “The global label printing industry is projected to grow from $31.5 billion in 2012 to nearly $40 billion by 2016. Our relation with narrow web extends a long way back in history. There are around 500 inkjet presses from us that are operating in commercial printing space and we have been developing CTP technologies to cater to the label market from a long time. Thus, we have the experience and expertise in understanding the requirements of the market. It’s a dynamic market and Screen is committed to supporting its diverse needs with quality digital printing systems,” he concluded.
