The department of printing technology, Regional Institute of Printing Technology (RIPT), Kolkata, West Bengal, has announced a four-day online workshop titled Applications of AI in the Printing Industry (AAIPI), scheduled to be held on 11, 12, 18, and 19 April 2026. The initiative reflects the institute’s ongoing efforts to promote knowledge sharing and professional upskilling in the printing and graphic communication sector, particularly in the context of rapidly advancing digital and intelligent technologies.
The workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including AI and machine learning fundamentals, applications in digital printing and pre-press automation, predictive maintenance of printing equipment, workflow optimisation, and AI-driven quality assurance. Special emphasis will also be placed on defect detection, information management, image analysis, and data-driven colour management for achieving consistent print quality.
A panel of experts from academia and industry will deliver lectures and interactive sessions during the programme. The list of keynote speakers includes Dr Arpitam Chatterjee from Jadavpur University; Avijit Kar from Jadavpur University; Parmeshwar Patidar, CEO of Indus Analytics; Indukalpa Saikia from Heidelberg India; Das Damodaran from Farb Technologies; Manu Choudhury, director, CDC Printers; Shankhya Debnath, lecturer and HoD, dept of printing technology, RIPT; and Pritam Ghosh, lecturer in computer science and technology, RIPT. Their diverse expertise spans areas such as digital printing, information management, workflow technologies, predictive maintenance, print metrology and print quality assurance.
The programme is open to a wide range of participants, including senior professionals from the printing industry, production managers, quality assurance personnel, academicians, researchers, and students in printing technology and allied disciplines. It aims to equip participants with both conceptual understanding and practical insights into integrating AI tools and techniques within printing processes.
The workshop is expected to benefit professionals in the printing sector by enabling them to adapt to the industry's ongoing digital transformation. By gaining exposure to AI-driven tools and methodologies, participants will be better positioned to enhance operational efficiency, reduce process variability, and improve overall print quality. The programme will also help professionals develop data-driven decision-making capabilities, supporting predictive maintenance, workflow optimisation, and intelligent quality control, thereby strengthening their competitiveness in an increasingly technology-driven print ecosystem.
Registrations for the workshop will open on 1 March 2026. The last date for registration and fee payment is 9 April 2026.
