Bennett, Coleman & Co (BCCL), India's leading media group and the world's largest newspaper printing organisation, has reinforced its commitment to cutting-edge press automation by awarding a new order to its long-standing partner, QIPC-EAE. This latest collaboration will see the retrofitting of the Colorman press line at BCCL’s Airoli facility, marking the eighth Manroland press within the BCCL group to be upgraded with QIPC-EAE technology.
BCCL, globally recognised for publishing newspapers such as The Times of India, The Economic Times, Navbharat Times, Maharashtra Times, and Vijay Karnataka, operates one of the most advanced and high-volume newspaper production networks worldwide. The continued investment underscores the robust partnership between BCCL and QIPC-EAE, reflecting a shared dedication to innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable newspaper production.
The partnership between BCCL and QIPC-EAE dates back to 2017, when BCCL initially sought to modernise its Geoman presses by replacing outdated control and drive technology. QIPC-EAE provided a future-proof solution through the integration of standard Siemens components, EAE press control software, and QI Press Controls' optical measurement and control systems. This strategic move not only resolved technical limitations but also yielded substantial savings in energy, ink, and paper, while significantly enhancing production reliability and flexibility.
The success of the initial retrofit projects paved the way for a series of follow-up orders. The current project for the Colorman A press at the Airoli site encompasses a full EAE press control upgrade for six towers and two double folders, alongside QIPC IDS-3D systems for closed-loop colour and damp control. This upgrade will also replace the existing Manroland PECOM system. These comprehensive retrofits are expected to position BCCL for efficient and reliable newspaper production for at least the next 15 years.
Rakesh Dave, managing director of QIPC-EAE India said, “QIPC-EAE has proven to be a reliable partner with excellent service from its office in India. Our collaboration with BCCL is more than technical, it's built on mutual trust and shared ambition." The foundation of this partnership, built on local presence, technical expertise, and responsive service since QIPC-EAE’s Indian office opened in Ahmedabad in 2004, has been instrumental in its consistent growth.
In an evolving print market characterised by increasing demands, both BCCL and QIPC-EAE recognise the importance of stability, teamwork, and continuous innovation for sustained success. This continued investment in modern technology by BCCL and the steadfast support from QIPC-EAE demonstrate their collective commitment to upholding quality, efficiency, and a leading position in the global newspaper industry.
