Publishing Next awards winners announced

On 12 September, the concluding day of the Publishing Next conference in Goa, the winners of the second Publishing Next Industry Awards were announced.

This year, after realignment and addition of the categories, the awards were announced in seven categories: Publisher of the Year, Publishing Innovation of the Year, Bookstore of the Year, Printed Book of the Year, Printed Book of the Year (children's book), Digital Book of the Year, and Best Cover of the Year. 
 
While the top honour of the Publisher of the Year was bagged by HarperCollins India, Nagercoil-based (Tamil Nadu) Kalachuvadu Publications and New Delhi's independent publisher, Yoda Press, were titled the runners-up in the category.
 
Gangtok's Rachna Books was titled the Bookstore of the Year and Mumbai's Kitabkhana stood second.
 
The title for the Printed Children's Book of the Year, a new category, in the awards, was shared by Disaibon Hul, published by Adivaani and The Boy and the Drum, published by Pratham Books. So Ja Ullu, published by Ekalavya was the runner-up for the category.
 
Pratham Books also bagged the winner's trophy for its Donate-a-Book in the Publishing Innovation category. The commended in the list were Books in Mundari by Eklavya, and Bloody Good Book. 
 
Arati Devasher won the Book Cover of the Year contest for The Sibius Knot, published by HarperCollins India. For this category introduced this year, Preeti Koul Chaudhry was announced the runner-up for her The Second Coming, published again, by HarperCollins India.
 
New Delhi's Aleph Book Company reigned the Printed Book of the Year category by bagging both the winner's and the runner-up title for its A Clutch of Indian Masterpieces: Extraordinary Short Stories from the 19th Century to the Present and Wild Fire: The Splendours of India's Animal Kingdom.
 
Another tie was in the Digital Book of the Year category, where Rupa Publication's The Dramatic Decade: The Indira Gandhi Years, and Aleph's Korma, Kheer and Kismet, took home the winner's title. Kakk Mam Ani Gurbanjekka, published by Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation (Vishwa Konkani Kendra) and Is He Fresh, published by Penguin India were the runners-up.
 
The two-day conference was organised by CinnamonTeal Publishing at the Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library in Panaji.
