PrintWeek Awards 2022: Sai Paks wins Innovative Printer of the Year
The sample for Lupin, Japan, was a self-adhesive label. It looked simple – printed with special Pantone shades and double white, but it had a custom-developed varnish layer on it – the luminous UV optical varnish.

The customer, Lupin, Japan, had a special label applicator with black UV light. Thus, when the label with the luminous UV varnish meets the black UV light, it is illuminated. Then the illuminated object is detected and it is applied to the vials. This high-security process also avoids duplication. The label was printed on Avery Dennison PP Clear with a double white layer on it.
The customer first wanted fluorescent ink, but Sai Paks suggested that fluorescent ink wouldn’t work on the product and suggested UV. It then worked with Sericol India to develop the UV varnish.
