Headed by Kamal Chopra, chairman of Pamex and Balasaheb Ambekar, co-chairman of Pamex 2020, the Print Odyssey had the first stop in Maharashtra at Pune. Officials from AIFMP and Poona Press Owners Association (PPOA) welcomed the team on 16 December and discussed the plans for the fourth phase of the Odyssey.

On the first day of the yatra, a group of printers from Baramati welcomed team Print Odyssey at Hotel Krishnanagar. Ambekar said, “Letterpress was the only technology in printing for 268 years. It was replaced by offset. Nowadays, technology is advancing by the day. Printers need to adapt to these changes and join hands to print cheaper.”

The second stop of the Print Odyssey was at Phaltan. A group of 40 printers were present discussed issues of the decline in sales resulting in the gen next’s unwillingness to enter the printing industry.

Chopra, while addressing this issue, said, “Printing has evolved from ink on paper. Printers need to evolve, too, and add value to their products.” Topics such as perfume inks and electric printing were discussed and the team further spoke about opening a cluster in Phaltan.

During the next stop at Pandharpur, the printers discussed about rates for printing. The team explained that fixing a rate is tricky because the cost of production is different for all. The solution was to print cheaper rather than setting a specific rate.

The final stop on the second day was at Solapur where more than 50 printers welcomed the team. The issues discussed were very similar to the other meetings. However, the main point of discussion was about personalised print, through which printers could add value to their products.

The team is expected to meet more than thousand printers across the various cities and cover more than 20 locations in the state during the week-long tour.
