Mumbai-based Prime Printers has invested in an RMGT 920ST four-colour press, marking a significant shift in its print-production capabilities. The press was installed at the company’s unit in July, replacing three older Heidelberg machines — an SM74, a SORDZ and a MOV — that had been the mainstay of the plant.

Speaking to PrintWeek, Sandeep Kothari, director, Prime Printers, explained the reasons behind the purchase. “We had evaluated other presses, but the RMGT 920ST gave us better features at the same cost, or even slightly less. RMGT’s tie-up with Mitsubishi was another key factor, since it is a respected name in the industry. I had also heard good reviews and first-hand experiences from other printers.”

According to Kothari, the new press aligns with the company’s ambition of building a stronger presence in book printing. “We wanted a machine that could give us high speed, fast plate changeover, and dependable service backup. RMGT’s local presence and maintenance support were important considerations,” he said.

While cost competitiveness played a role in the decision, Kothari pointed out that the RMGT’s eco-friendly design also appealed to him. “The company claims the press can cut electricity bills by 20-25%. That is a tangible saving,” he noted.

The installation underscores the company’s investment strategy of upgrading to faster, more reliable machines while maintaining cost efficiency. “This one machine has allowed us to consolidate operations. We are now planning to add a second press, a Ryobi two-colour, to complete our setup,” Kothari said.

For Prime Printers, which describes itself as a small press operation, the RMGT 920ST offers a pathway into higher-volume, quicker turnaround publishing work. With fewer competitors in this market segment and strong technical support, Kothari believes the investment is well-timed.

“This machine fits our requirements perfectly. It is fast, reliable, and well backed by service. For a company like ours, that makes all the difference,” he concluded.
