PIA announces the Intertech Technology Awards 2013

Eleven technologies were selected to receive the awards,

Aproove is an instant online approval solution for brand owners, marketing departments, printers, agency or a centralised service provider giving the user all the tools needed to enable 24/7 online proofing, collaboration, document access and sign off.

Technology: Powercoat
Company: Arjowiggins creative papers
Powercoat is a remarkable paper that facilitates the seamless integration of electronic functionality and printed graphics, facilitating a whole range of electronic possibilities for paper, from embedded RFID tags to more intelligent functionalities. This opens up a world of possibilities in packaging, advertising and other industries.

Technology: Oris Lynx
Company: CGS Publishing Technologies International
Oris Lynx is the new cloud-based color management tool for professional color printers delivering accurate colour results that stay throughout the press-run, all incorporated in a web browser.

Technology: GMG opencolor
Company: GMG
GMG opencolor increases the color accuracy of proofs by simulating the overprint behavior of different printing processes and process-specific variables. It meets the demands of consumer products companies who are sensitive to even minor inconsistencies in color matching.

Technology: Heidelberg Speedmaster XL VLF Press with twin-gripper delivery and remote fan-out control
Company: Heidelberg USA
The twin-gripper technology secures the lead and tail edges of the sheet in the delivery, ensuring smooth pile formation, and eliminating marking as well as paper waste from slowdown corridors. Remote fan-out control adjusts the plate tail clamps dynamically from the console to compensate for fan-out, avoiding wasted time in stopping the press. 
 

Technology: HP indigo 10000 digital press
Company: HP
HP Indigo 10000 digital Press prints upto seven colours on a 29.5 x 20.9 inches sheet in a single pass with the same print quality and substrate flexibility common to other indigo presses. The press can achieve a resolution of 812 dpi to 1219 dpi.
 

Technology: Kodak flexcel direct system
Company: Eastman kodak company
This innovative direct laser engraving system uses energy-efficient, high-power imaging technology to produce press-ready elastomer plates and sleeves that enable both superior print quality and increased production throughput. With engraving speeds up to 50% faster than existing systems and a simple, two-step prepress process, sleeves and plates get to press more quickly.

Technology: Jetvarnish 3D
Company: MGI digital graphic technology
Jetvarnish 3D is an inkjet digital system offering traditional spot UV coating and new 3D raised effects to print projects with coating thicknesses up to 100 microns that differentiate the printed material. In a B2 format, it can produce quantities ranging from one to hundreds of thousands without requiring plates, screens, or extensive makeready.

Technology: Scodix metallic with Scodix Sense.
Company: Scodix
The function of Scodix is to produce metallic colouring by simply utilizing the CMYK colour process, and enhancing it with Scodix Sense, all in a digital 1-pass print process. PSPs can give their customers metallic coloring without the need for the traditional foil stamping resources.

Technology: DLMS: Distributed Learning Management System
Company: Sinapse Print Simulators
The Cloud-based distributed learning management system facilitates instructors to manage and evaluate large numbers of press trainees, both on-site and across sites. The system provides automatic analysis and reporting of training exercises while providing multilingual capabilities that allow the trainer to set problems and analyze results in many languages without translation.

Since 1978, the InterTech technology awards have honoured the innovations and development of technologies which are predicted to have a major impact on the graphic arts and related industries.

The independent panels of judges have deliberated over many technology nominations ranging from digital presses and related enhancements to a variety of mobile and web-based software.

The Intertech stars, recognized as a symbol of technological innovation and excellence, will be presented before an audience of industry leaders during the 2013 Premier Print Awards Gala featuring the Intertech technology awards and web2awards, September 8, in Chicago, Illinois.
