In a significant step towards regional collaboration, the Sri Lanka Association of Printers (SLAP) and the Mumbai Mudrak Sangh (MMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering cooperation, innovation, and mutual growth in the printing and packaging sectors.

The agreement was formalised by Ashok Holkar, president of MMS and Janaka Rathnakumara, president of SLAP in the presence of other members, during the eighth MMS Round Table held in Colombo. This year’s edition was jointly organised with SLAP with Mangala Wijesinghe, chairman and CEO - Sri Lanka Export Development Board as the guest of honour and the presence of Roshni Thomson, the first secretary (PIC) at the Indian High Commission, Colombo.

The MoU outlines a structured framework for long-term engagement between the two associations and focuses on ten key areas, including knowledge exchange, joint events, trade promotion, youth engagement, and cultural understanding.

Under the agreement, both organisations will collaborate to host roundtables, conferences, and exhibitions that address current industry challenges and emerging opportunities. The two associations will also promote cross-border delegation visits, factory tours, and trade missions to enhance member exposure and networking.

A strong emphasis has been placed on professional development. SLAP and MMS will jointly conduct workshops, masterclasses, and training programmes designed to build capabilities across the value chain from students and start-ups to seasoned professionals. In addition, they will undertake joint research initiatives, including white papers and market intelligence reports that aim to inform strategic decisions within the industry.

The MoU commits to encouraging young professionals and entrepreneurs through innovation platforms and mentorship opportunities, while also promoting cultural exchange and appreciation between the two neighbouring countries.

Speaking at the signing, Rathnakumara said, “This partnership marks a new era of collaboration for the South Asian print industry. Together with MMS, we aim to create lasting value for our members and strengthen the region’s position in the global printing landscape.” Holkar echoed the sentiment, stating, “Our shared values and vision make this partnership both natural and necessary. We believe this MoU will not only foster industry excellence but also deepen the people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.”

The MoU will remain in effect for a mutually agreed period and will be reviewed annually to assess progress and identify new opportunities for cooperation
