MIT conducts orientation programme for new students

Department of Printing and Media Engineering, MIT, Manipal inducted his 26th batch of students with a two-day orientation programme held on 18 and 19 July 2018 at the campus.

Gautham S Pai, managing director, Manipal Technologies who lit the ‘wisdom lamp’ to kickstart proceedings congratulated the students and insisted the budding engineers to focus on the technological transitions taking place both in print and electronic media like Printed electronics, augmented reality, smart packaging, VFX etc. He also averred that the engineers must be able to provide solution-based business to the customers.

The orientation opened with a special lecture by Ramesh Chandran, deputy director (engineering), All India Radio, Mangalore on the topic “Importance of Mass Communication in Electronic Age”.

In his talk, he briefed on telecasting network and signal processing, newsroom technologies, studio set up as well as sound engineering. He overviewed electronic media’s impact on the lifestyle of the younger generation in a positive way.

A session on science and research opportunities in print media under the title “Innovations in Print” was conducted by Dr Shivananda Wagle, GM, R&D division of Manipal Technologies. He spoke at length on modern printing technologies like dynamic information in digital card technologies, interactive smart packaging, solution-based emission testing management systems and illuminant displays.

The students were also taken to shop floor of MTL’s commercial print division as part of the programme.
