The new logo, which has been crafted by National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, represents IIP’s focus in three different areas: export promotion, packaging research and packaging education.

IIP director, Dr NC Saha said, “The logo captures the institute's future prerogative in three important areas - export promotion through the formulation of packaging standards for exportable commodities, upgradation of packaging education through the introduction of BTech and MTech courses in packaging technology and management, and also packaging research for shelf-life studies for fresh and processed food products, and to develop alternative packaging materials in compliance to environmental regulations."

The logo was designed by NID’s associate senior faculty, Dr Tridha Gajjar. She joined NID in 2006 and over the years developed an interest in the area of packaging design.

Speaking to PrintWeek India, Dr Gajjar said, “IIP’s old logo was in use since its inception in 1965. In the last fifty years, IIP's contribution to the Indian packaging sector has been enormous, and that had to be reflected in the new design. It was a big responsibility. After the initial design brief by Dr Saha, we made a few presentations with several different designs before the IIP authorities approved this design. It was an extensive process of four months from concept to execution to finalisation.”

Other dignitaries of the event were Rajani Ranjan Rashmi, additional secretary, ministry of commerce and industry and Padma Vibhushan Dr RA Mashelkar, national research professor at National Chemical Laboratory, who delivered the keynote address.
