IPPTA bioresources conference to convene stakeholders

As sustainability pressures intensify across the pulp and paper value chain, renewable bioresources are emerging as an urgent necessity rather than a long-term aspiration. Against this backdrop, the Indian Pulp and Paper Technical Association (IPPTA) will host a national conference on Renewable Bioresources in the Pulp and Paper Industry – Both for Energy and Raw Materials from 26–28 February 2026 in Bengaluru. Over 375 delegates have registered so far.

The conference will bring together mill leaders, technology providers, researchers, policymakers and academicians to examine how alternative fibres, biomass-based energy and emerging biofuels can strengthen fibre security, reduce carbon intensity and support India’s transition towards a circular bioeconomy. With mounting pressure on conventional wood supplies and rising regulatory expectations, the industry is increasingly turning to sustainably managed plantations, agricultural residues and recycled fibres to ensure long-term raw material resilience.

Beyond fibre, the event will also focus on renewable energy pathways, including black liquor recovery, biomass cogeneration and next-generation biofuels. Sessions will explore how these technologies can help mills cut fossil fuel dependence, improve energy efficiency and move closer to decarbonisation targets, while addressing operational, safety and economic challenges associated with biomass handling and processing.

The three-day programme will feature technical sessions, panel discussions and a dedicated exhibition showcasing technologies and solutions for renewable raw materials and clean energy adoption. An Author’s Meet and cash awards for selected technical papers are expected to encourage strong participation from researchers and mill technologists.

The conference will be held at the Royal Orchid Resort & Convention Centre, providing a platform for focused technical exchange and networking. With fibre availability, cost pressures and climate commitments converging, the IPPTA conference aims to move the conversation from intent to implementation — highlighting practical, scalable pathways for renewable bioresources across Indian mills.
