HPPL boosts production efficiency with Heidelberg Suprasetter

Chennai-based, packaging printing specialist, Harshal Print Packaging (HPPL) has invested in a brand-new Heidelberg Suprasetter A 106 platesetter, its second Suprasetter, in a bid to expand its pre-press production capacity. The positive experience of the first, a 106 model with the Prinect workflow installed a few years back, led to the “repeat” decision.

Nishanth (l) and Prashanth Shah: Invested in a second Suprasetter platesetter to expand its pre-press production capacity

"We decided to purchase a second Heidelberg Suprasetter platesetter for our new facility in Chennai because our production capacity has increased, and it made sense to us,” said Nishant Shah, executive director at the HPPL. He added, “We have set up our new mono-carton unit at Redhills on the outskirts of Chennai with an eight-colour press, and complete post-press facility, including an Eterna die-cutter and folder-gluer, lamination machine. Therefore, the doubled production led us to further expansion.”

Established in 1995 by Prashant Shah company has three units across Chennai and specialises in mono cartons and printed corrugated boxes. It also specialises in MetPET cartons with the capability to value-add special effects such as drip UV. “Contemporary business has not become all about presentation. The packaging and quality of printing have become the only media and tools for such presentations,” said Shah.

Besides a wide range of products, HPPL has to protect its market image of timely delivery every time with reasonable pricing, flying high.

“We have three units across Chennai. The corporate office at Vyasarpadi, has a central designing team that shoots the file to the Sothupakkam unit where the new Suprasetter is installed,” explained Nishant, Shah’s son and the next-gen at HPPL.

“It’s the beauty of Heidelberg workflow combined with the capabilities of the Suprasetter, which helps us save a lot of time in pre-press, including using Prinect packaging designer for enhanced productivity and no error. We are in new markets today, and the workflow has supported acquiring new customers. We had wonderful training from the Heidelberg team, and it will be continued with additional training,” said Nishant.

The Suprasetter A 106 is capable of shifting from manual to a fully automatic option with its smart plate handling capacity and has integrated temperature stabilisation, punching suction, and dust filter systems.

“The modular design of the Suprasetter A 106 provides maximum flexibility for the medium-size format range. Their Intelligent Diode System (IDS) virtually eliminates production losses. An integrated cooling system prevents any adverse impact from external temperatures,” said Annamalaichami Prabaharan, deputy general manager for sales at Heidelberg India.

Prabaharan explained, “We have also included the press standardisation support for their existing printing equipment and upgrading the print quality. Our application experts visit the print shop and do the necessary procedures for the optimised printing.”
