The BMPA president Tushar Bhotica shares insights on the association's growth, industry trends, and future plans. Having started his first term as president in October 2024, Bhotica was re-elected, with his current term concluding in September 2026.
With nearly members extending beyond Mumbai to Kolkata and Delhi, BMPA has a significant presence in Western India. Bhotica highlighted the silent yet effective role of the Grievance Cell in resolving member disputes.
Regarding industry initiatives, Bhotica discussed the Cardex and Prindex system, a joint effort with AIFMP, acknowledging that while it's a landmark index, it still needs to gain desired acceptance.
He noted significant trends in Mumbai's print and packaging sector, including the shift towards larger-scale businesses and an increase in companies seeking PE stake sales for growth.
Looking ahead, BMPA's popular Print Summit is scheduled for 4 February 2026 in Mumbai. He said it promises to be "Bigger, Better, and Unstoppable!"
During the 54th AGM of the BMPA on 19 September, Bhotica introduced Stock Laabh, a new app and website, designed to help members manage excess and dead stock, thereby freeing up capital and offering buyers discounted goods. The website is expected to "go live" soon.
Addressing challenges, Bhotica mentioned the impact of MIP on paper prices and ongoing discussions with mills regarding raw material costs. BMPA and AIFMP are also actively working on representation concerning GST rationalisation.
Packaging remains a flourishing sector for commercial printers in Mumbai. Bhotica advised print firm CEOs and owner-promoters to study their costs and avoid under-selling, emphasising that running machines at "ridiculous rates" is detrimental to the balance sheet.
Finally, Bhotica envisions BMPA becoming "stronger and better than ever before" in the next decade, supported by a "brilliant young managing committee team."
