The landscape of industrial logistics is shifting from bulk stockpiling to lean, just-in-time procurement, according to Vimal Puri, general manager at Envisus Packaging. Speaking to PrintWeek at the Corru Pack and Print India exhibition in Mumbai, Puri noted that market volatility and geopolitical tensions have altered buyer behaviour within the Indian packaging sector.
Puri highlighted that while the company began a decade ago as a manager-led initiative within a corrugation group, it has focused on high-strength protective solutions. The production line utilises machinery from Finland and China to maintain standards.
Addressing the technical specifications of the company's range, Puri explained that the frames, measuring 1,000 by 1,200mm, have a load-bearing capacity of one-tonne, with a limit of 1.5-tonnes. The product line starts from a capacity of 200 to 250-kilograms and includes boxes designed for materials such as glass or fibre.
Despite the advancements in the company's plant, Puri suggested that much of the machinery on display at the exhibition appeared outdated compared to the technology standards available globally. He observed that the industry is grappling with a shift where customers prefer frequent orders rather than maintaining inventories.
The raw material strategy for Envisus Packaging is rooted in Indian paper mills, utilising paper bonded with in-house-manufactured adhesives. Looking ahead, the company aims to navigate the economic climate by focusing on its commitment to product integrity and protection for the export and import markets.
