New Delhi’s JMD picks up the Xerox Color 1000 at the show
Last September, JMD Colour Scan signed up for a Xerox 770 Press at the Interprint Expo held in New Delhi, after contemplating to venture into digital printing for a couple of months. Five months later, at PrintPack India, the firm signed up for a high productivity engine, the Xerox Color 1000 Press to meet the high potential need of the market. The deal was initiated by Nippon Color, a Mumbai-based representative of Xerox India.

JMD Colour Scan is one of the major pre-press service providers in Delhi and is equipped with a Cron CTCP system and FFEI’s violet CTP. The digital arm, named JMD Digital, works under the aegis of JMD Colour Scan caters and operates from the Naraina Industrial Area, a busy commercial printing hub in Delhi. The firm claims to have printed around 70,000 copies in the four months since installation of the 770 Press and hopes to double the business with the new Color 1000 Press. “We will leverage our pre -press business to drive our digital print business,” said Deepak Arora, CEO at JMD.
Talking about the Color 1000 buy, Arora said, “We took prints and compared them with prints of other machines, and found the ones taken on Xerox 1000 Colour to be far superior," he said. "The machine is also capable of printing on substrates as thick as 350gsm. Besides, the ink technology used is energy efficiently, significantly reducing energy investment. We, therefore, decided to go ahead with buying this press,”
According to Pankaj Kalra, associate director and head - graphic communications business, Delhi offers the digital print service providers with enough “eligible” short-run jobs. “There are print jobs with the commercial printers which can easily be printed through the digital route, because of cost, quick delivery and many more reasons. I call these jobs eligible short-run jobs,” says Kalra. “The Xerox Color 1000’s capabilities like colour management automation, finishing solutions and green credentials, gives print providers as well as the commercial printers they serve, a mutual way to drive sales,” he said.
