Canpac Trends has signed a deal for a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 seven-colour plus coater press at Pamex, reinforcing a long-running technology partnership and setting the direction for its new packaging facility in Indore.

Speaking to PrintWeek at the show, Karan Pursnani, director at Canpac Trends, said the Indore project had been in planning since mid-2025 and would focus primarily on mono cartons and e-flute packaging for food, textile and confectionery customers. “This is a packaging-focused facility where repeatability and brand-compliant output really matter,” he said. “That is why the Rapida 106 is central to our strategy for Indore.”

The new plant will be Canpac’s latest addition to a multi-location manufacturing footprint that already spans Ahmedabad, Delhi, Tirupur, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Silvassa. The Indore facility will mark the company’s eighth Koenig & Bauer press installation and its tenth manufacturing unit overall. According to Pursnani, Indore was chosen for its central location and growing industrial base. “Serving central India has been part of the long-term vision,” he said, pointing to government-led MSME initiatives and expanding demand across food, pharma and FMCG sectors.

The Rapida 106 differs from Canpac’s earlier installations in terms of productivity optimisation. Pursnani highlighted improvements in plate changing and cleaning enabled by newer ink duct technology. “Make-ready time has come down significantly,” he said. “What earlier took 90 minutes to two hours is now closer to 10 to 15 minutes. Manufacturing downtime is critical for us.”

He added that the Indore project would begin with a single print production line, with scope to scale to two or three lines over the next four to five years as demand builds. “This is a mid-sized investment to start with, but the intent is to grow aggressively with both technical and sales teams in place,” Pursnani said.

Koenig & Bauer RA 106 press will be installed by August/September 2026.

From the supplier side, Aditya Surana, managing director at Indo Polygraph Machinery, said the Indore order marked another milestone in a relationship that began in 2016. “With the Indore plant, this becomes the eighth Koenig & Bauer press at Canpac and we are privileged to be the only printing machine supplier present at all Canpac greenfield projects,” he said. “It is a fully loaded Rapida 106 seven-colour plus coater, with full UV capability, similar to the configuration we are installing at their Delhi facility.”

Surana noted that while the first machine in any relationship could be driven by marketing, repeat investments reflected performance on the shopfloor. “Repeat orders happen only when the machine delivers,” he said. “The fact that Canpac continues to standardise on the Rapida platform says a lot about consistency and trust.
