Rohan Rai: Offset and digital must survive together in the future

Seekho aur samjho and please communicate.
2. What is your favourite Make in India print brand?
Pragati Offset.
3. What do you most value in your customers?
Loyalty, respect for the printer and a clarity of thought while conveying the requirement.
4. Your favourite print conference?
BMPA’s Print Summit and Drupa.
5. What is your idea of a perfect print firm in India?
One stop service for customers. One should never lose sight of customising print jobs with the quality of service and innovation capabilities.
6. What is the trait you most deplore in our industry?
Unhealthy and unethical competition.
7. Which living print person do you most admire? Why?
My father, BM Rai. His success story inspires me to take our business to the next level.
8. When and which print job or project made you the happiest?
We created a sleeve for food packaging for a FMCG client. We conceptualised the job, right from to its designing, proofing to printing and the end result was very satisfying.
9. Describe your day in two sentences?
Wake up and do some breathing exercise. Nine hours of work followed by a football game on the turf. Head home for a dinner with family and an episode on Netflix to end the day!
10. Which printing process do you prefer and why?
We have an offset and a flexo unit. Both the technologies complement each other. It helps us cater to our diverse customer requirements such as mono cartons and roll form labels.
11. If you could change one thing about your printing plant, what would it be?
Invest in automisation and minimise human interference.
12. One job you wish you had printed?
Paperboat and Marlboro double mint cartons.
13.What is your most ‘wow’ moment (print / non-print)?
I was amazed when I saw the wine and spirit packaging in India. Apart from that, I was stunned while visiting culturally enriching and world heritage sites like in Peru and Israel.
14.Which print technology, according to you, is the future?Why?
Hybrid, as offset and digital must survive together, and take the best of each process. I see great potential in 3D printing too.
