Top exhibitors at Labelexpo Europe

Indian label printing industry is riding high on the back of a booming packaging sector, Labelexpo Europe (24-27 September 2013) is India’s opportunity to make a mark on the global market.

13 Sep 2013 | By PrintWeek India

Labelexpo Europe 2013 will be the largest ever edition in its 33-year history. This year we have grown to cover seven exhibition halls, up from six in 2011 and will have a show-floor size of 31,000sqm. With over 550 exhibitors, including 90 first time participant. Lisa Milburn, managing director, Labelexpo Europe sheds some light on why visitors should be excited about the show in Brussels, Belgium.

Why Indian label manufacturers should be excited about Labelexpo Europe 2013? According to you what will be the highlights of the show at Brussels?
As the largest ever edition of Labelexpo Europe, 2013’s show will also be the best one too with many, many highlights! With nearly 600 exhibitors, there will be lots for printers to see and do. From checking out the latest cutting-edge technology, seeing the very newest working machines being put through their paces and hearing about the most important trends that will impact on businesses, show visitors will be well armed from time spent on the show floor.

There will also be some fantastic feature areas to visit where printers and converters can gain useful and practical ideas and advice on how they can diversify their business into short run package printing or add value to their customers. Show visitors will also be able to compare different inkjet presses from the industry’s leading manufacturers and get a good feeling and understanding of what they could achieve with the technologies being demonstrated. Mike Fairley will be giving his exclusive digital master class for the very first time at Europe and that is set to be a sell out with limited places. HP’s Print your Future feature area in the Patio Hall will give another valuable dimension to the show for those keen to learn w more about investing in digital as HP and its many partners will highlight the innovation that is driving labels and packaging for some of the world’s biggest brands.

With online brand campaigns and social media advertising gathering steam, do you consider them as a competing media or scope for the packaging industry in general and label manufacturing in particular?
Online and social media campaigns are definitely not a competing media but a complementing communication tool. Brand owners have really started to understand the important role packaging plays in engaging with consumers and are starting to embrace its use into their overall strategic marketing and branding plans. Using packaging to communicate and interact with the consumer will only grow in popularity especially as brand owners want to know more about what makes the customer tick; how they can encourage loyalty and influence repeat purchasing.

There is great deal of on-going research and development in the label manufacturing sector, so how should a prospective buyer zero-in on a certain technology? What technologies will play a major role in the near future?
Technology is changing all of the time so visitors should not focus on what just one particular technology could do for them. Understanding where most of your business comes from and identifying where the growth opportunities are within your existing business are the secrets to unlocking what might work best for an individual printer. Flexo is a great solution for large print jobs while digital works really well for short runs with high levels of personalization. With many other innovations coming into the market like nano printing, the situation remains the same as it has for many years – there is no one perfect solution that fits every print job.

Label converters strive to reduce production operation costs while continuing to bring innovation and value to their customers. Discussions with label converters show a common need for production flexibility. How will Labelexpo Europe address these concerns of an average label converter?
The best way to find out about what can be done to successfully reduce downtime and cut operation costs etc is to talk to the exhibitors and look at what their individual presses or work flow systems can bring to your business. Ask them directly how you can enhance your own efficiency and grill them about how they have worked with other customers in similar circumstances. Businesses need be lean but they also need to give the customer a quality service so look too for new ways of adding value through better quality finishing options, brand security and inspection equipment.

Lisa Milburn, managing director, Labelexpo Europe
