He then spoke about the CIE system of colour measurement with standard observer, standard illuminant and primaries. Plus he demystified the LabCh model and the concept of colour temperature in detail.
The theory session was followed by practical demonstration of dotmeter, densitometer and spectrophotometer, their usage, applications and difference between each of the devices. Kamat was assisted by his colleagues for the practical session. “While densitometer is used to measure CMYK only, spectrophotometer measures colours beyond CMYK gamut including pantones,” said Kamat.
The Q&A session, which followed, attracted some interesting queries from the audience including one about measuring colour for MetPET substrate and metallic inks.
