The foundation stone for the library was laid recently in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar. The library will be called Swatantryaveer Savarkar City Library.
According to the civic administration, the library will have a construction area of 5,595.61-sqm, which will include a three-storey building, plus parking.
The second floor will have the library, including a waiting room, a magazine and newspaper department, a new books department, a reading room, a meeting room, an office, a book gallery and a modern reading room facility, while the third floor will include a sprawling study hall. The library will have a seating capacity for 100 persons.
In December 2021, the Pune civic body had sanctioned Rs 6.71-crore for the construction of the three-storey building. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 13-crore.
