Karna BK, director-PCRI, said, “Our country loses more than 10% of its food grain production and 30% of fruits and vegetables every year due to inadequate storage, handling and lack of proper management of the eatables. About 12-million tonnes of grains are lost due to pests, birds and about 10-million tonnes during transportation."
Giving away some numbers, Karna BK added, "India wastes more fruits and vegetables in a year than consumed in the entire United Kingdom. In monetary terms, it is a loss of more than Rs 55,600 crore. If all these losses are reduced to their maximum, the country would be in a position to feed an additional 117 million people for a year.”
Biscuits, Wafers and Confectionery Association (BWCMA) has supported the training programme. Khan, manager-administration of the association SK Sood, National Consultant for food industry, has taken lecture during the training programme.
PCRI has planned a similar three-dya programme for the pharma industry.
