Salgaonkar, who is survived by his wife and three sons, Jairaj, Jayanand and Jayendra, breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai.
Paying his condolences to Salgaonkar, Anand Limaye, senior printer and head of India Printing Works, expressed, “Shri Salgaonkar was a father figure in the Indian printing industry who played a pioneering role in steering growth and properity. The maker of Kalnirnay and a known astrologer, Shri Salgaonkar’s auspicious presence used to enhance the prestige of any function."
"In 2011, Mumbai Mudrak Sangh honoured him with a Lifetime Achievement Award,” added Limaye.
Kalnirnay (translated it means, timely decision) came into being in 1972. "Kalnirnay" has today grown to be reputedly the world's largest selling publication, with around 19 million copies being sold annually in languages which include English, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
