Flint Group, a century-old supplier of printing inks and coatings, has formally unveiled its strategic pivot with a company-wide rebrand to Flint Group Packaging Solutions. The company stated the name change embodies its "packaging-first strategy". Pepyn Dinandt, CEO of Flint emphasised the market’s shift toward enhanced recyclability and evolving packaging formats.
Dinandt said, "We are seeing a market evolution across substrates, packaging formats, and coatings to enhance recyclability while replacing complex structures. He added, “Our future lies in the attractive packaging market, which has high exposure to resilient, growing consumer sectors.” Flint Group Packaging Solutions is well-positioned to lead the way”.
Flint Group Packaging Solutions operates as a unified global leader across five business segments, focusing on efficiency, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. These are flexible packaging where it provides efficient solutions for materials used in food, personal care, and household packaging; also paper and board in terms of supporting fibre-based packaging with recyclable inks and coatings. Then there is narrow web segment delivers high-performance inks and coatings for labels and shrink sleeves; the sheetfed offset segment offers advanced inks and coatings for premium carton applications. And finally, there is Flint Group Digital Xeikon: Empowering converters with sustainable digital print consumables, presses, and technologies.
Building on its legacy in print, the company has adapted by investing in technologies and materials to meet the demands of brands, retailers, and consumers. Dinandt reiterated the firm’s commitment to sustainability, noting that low environmental impact is a core pillar of its product design. Recent developments include nitrocellulose-free ink systems, bio-based coatings, and energy-efficient UV LED inks, all designed to help customers meet evolving regulations and sustainability goals.
Despite the major rebrand, customers can expect the same teams, products, and service to remain in place. The Day transfer media business and the Web Offset division will also continue as key partners to the market, alongside the long-standing chemicals business operating under the Varn brand.
