At Mumbai Comic Con 2026, Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle demonstrated that India’s homegrown comics continue to command attention amid the global appeal of anime, manga, gaming and international pop culture franchises.
The two iconic brands created one of the event’s most ambitious exhibits, centred on the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Designed in collaboration with Liminal, the large-format installation featured immersive zones such as “Ravana Must Fall” and “Abhimanyu’s Chakravyuh.” The Chakravyuh attraction, a hall-of-mirrors maze inspired by Abhimanyu’s legendary battle sequence in the Mahabharata, became one of the most popular features of the booth, drawing long queues of visitors eager to test their wayfinding skills.
Amar Chitra Katha also unveiled the Ramayana Chest, a premium collector’s edition wooden box, along with mystery boxes, books, games, merchandise and collectibles. Products developed with Urban Gurukul and Rishi Nanda added interactive elements to the showcase.
Tinkle attracted readers across generations, with children and adults gathering to meet beloved characters such as Suppandi, Shikari Shambu and WingStar.
The event also marked the launch of Tinkle Holiday Special 56 and the announcement of Amar Chitra Katha’s forthcoming title, Musicians of India, which will be released on World Music Day.
According to Savio Mascarenhas, group art director, Amar Chitra Katha, the response from families, collectors and long-time readers was “truly encouraging.” Editor in chief of Tinkle Gayathri Chandrasekaran described the Tinkle launch as “a resounding success.” The strong turnout reinforced the enduring relevance of Indian comics as a vibrant and evolving part of the country’s popular culture.
