BP Lipeds adds Bobst Ambition 106 A2

This is the first Bobst Ambition A2 folder gluer in India.

Deepanshu Bhambari of BP Lipeds said, “Since we are a packaging printing company, Bobst was an obvious choice, especially since we have prior experience with the brand and its products.”

He said in between the company experimented with other brands of folder-gluers but was not satisfied. “I can say that it was not a good idea to go for any brand other than Bobst. Bobst has been a leader in post-press so we again added a new machine from Bobst,” he said.

He added that the company is using the folder-gluer for duplex at the moment but as this machine is compatible with corrugation, the company will use it for corrugation very soon.

BP Lipeds is a sister concern of Chandigarh-based Bhambari Printers, which is into POS material, commercial and books printing.

Prior to the Bobst investment, a few months back, BP Lipeds added a pre-owned six-colour Heidelberg CD 102 with online coater and an interdeck LED UV for metalised printing.

“Since we have increased our printing capacity, post-press is a definite requirement. Otherwise, it’s tough to finish the product at the same speed,” he added.

Recently, the company also added a semi-automatic rigid box manufacturing machine. “There are opportunities for rigid boxes, but demand is still limited. That’s why we decided to go for a semi-automatic machine,” Bhambari said. The company’s target customers for rigid boxes include sweet manufacturers, bakeries, specialised gift items, and liquor.

The company converts around 50-tonnes of paper in its Chandigarh plant and around 300-tonnes of board per month in Baddi to produce mono cartons, metalise cartons and fluted cartons. The corrugation facility consumes around 50 to 80-tonnes of kraft paper per month. “Corrugation contributes to around 30% of our total business,” Bhambari added.

Bhambari said Baddi as a packaging location is losing its pull with Guwahati emerging as a new lucrative market packaging converters to set up plants. He gave the example of Alkem Group which moved from Baddi to Assam.

The family-owned printing and packaging business was started by Sunil Bhambri in 1982. His brother Hemant looks after the finances while their elder brother Harish Bhambari looks after the plant activities. With the second generation in the business now all responsibilities are divided in a way that max output can be obtained from the available resources. Jeeten Bhambari, the elder son, is responsible for entire group marketing, Sumeet Bhambari takes care of the corrugation business and Deepanshu Bhambari, the youngest son, is responsible for the commercial and rigid box business.

The company services clients from pharma, FMCG, automobile, beverage and other segments and after adding another Bobst, it now expects a decent growth per annum.
