What does the machine do?
Varioman is an offset printing press with sleeve technology that can print on films, paper and board with variable repeat lengths and can cater to the packaging segment for both flexible and rigid packaging.

Which are the different models?
Varioman is available in three different models for different applications. The B-Line is for book production; the C-Line is for cardboard packaging and the F-Line is for flexible packaging. These models come with three web widths — 850-, 1,120- and 1,300-mm. All the three models are available with EB (electron beam) curing; LED UV curing and conventional UV curing for faster drying on different types of substrates.

How do these models differ from each other?
The B-Line, used for books printing, is capable of printing from 30 to 120-gsm paper. The C-Line, used for carton and rigid packaging, is capable of printing from 100 to 700-microns paper and board. The F-Line, used for flexible packaging, is capable of printing from 10 to 300-microns films/ paper.

Is there anything in the machine which is available as a standalone, if the machine is modular?
The machine can be offered as standalone offset printing units, and also with customised solutions. Gravure/ flexo printing units can be added for special applications in the F-Line. Coating/inline die-cutting/sheeting/stacking can be done in the C-Line. The variable size book block making module can be attached in the B-Line.

When was the machine launched?
The Varioman was launched in 2018.

What was the thought process when the machine was conceived?
Manroland Goss Web Systems conceived the machine as a solution for the fast-growing packaging industry, especially for short and medium demand. We are happy to provide a fully automated technology that gives the benefit of lowest operating cost

What kind of substrates can it handle?
The B, C and F-Lines of Varioman can handle varieties of substrates like PET, BOPP, PE, different types of laminates, and multiple types of paper and board. The B-Line can handle paper from 30 to 120-gsm. The C-Line can handle 100-700 microns paper/ cardboard. The F-Line can handle films from 10 to 300-microns.

How fast is it?
The Varioman runs at a speed of 400-m/min. (The speed of the machine depends on substrates and finishing equipment attached with the machine). Currently, the Varioman C-Line is running at the speed of 450-m/min at Rosa-GPD food packaging in Europe with inline die- cutting.

What is the USP of the machine?
The USP of the Varioman includes quick job change in less than 10 minutes with less wastage. It has the lowest operating cost compared to other printing technologies for short- run jobs available in the market. The machine can print with EB curing inks that are food grade and safe for food packaging.

Multiple SKUs can be printed in one job, which is not possible with other printing technologies. It offers the lowest carbon footprint compared to other traditional printing processes. The Varioman is future-proof and follows the parameters of Industry 4.0.

How easy is it to use?
The Varioman has the Pecom-X that uses a closed-loop self-learning system requiring minimum operator interference. Thus, it is easy to use and minimal manpower is required to operate the printing press.

What training and support are on offer?
Manroland Goss Web Systems is present in India with highly trained and experienced technicians to support and train the customers in India. We also offer round-the-clock tele-support for our customers.

How much does it cost?
The Varioman is a multipurpose and multidimensional machine, and cost depends on multiple parameters. It’s a highly customised press.

Installation numbers worldwide? How many do you expect to install in 2022- 2023?
We have installed two machines globally, and the machines are running well. We intend to install two more Varioman in 2022-2023 and are eager to open the account in India.
