TNPL launches paper brand GreenPal for students

The Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers (TNPL), owned by the Government of Tamil Nadu, has launched a new variety of paper under the brand name ‘GreenPal. Targeted at the student community, the brand offers copier papers and notebooks of various sizes.

The company has also ventured into e-commerce through this brand. Using the facility available at the company website, tnpl.com, students can now buy the notebooks online, which will be delivered free.
 
The new paper is manufactured using only bagasse pulp and de-inked pulp. This makes GreenPal environment-friendly, as no wood pulp is used.
 
The state-run company, which competes with some of the big brands, including Ballarpur Industries, International Paper, JK Paper, West Coast and others, said, GreenPal notebooks have been marketed through the company website, where it can be purchased using a debit or credit card. The notebooks are delivered to the students at normal retail price with free delivery across the five states in South India and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
 
TNPL is one of the top 17 paper manufacturing companies in the country and it is the only company which has reported a profit more than Rs 100 crore in 2013-14, to Rs 161.18 crore. For the first time, TNPL’s sales crossed over Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 2,285 crore, up by 22%.
 
During the second quarter ended September 30, 2014, the company reported a profit of Rs 33.51 crore as compared to Rs 43.99 crore, a year ago. During the quarter, the company has provided Rs 32.28 crore towards depreciation and Rs 36.68 crore as finance cost. The total revenue stood at Rs 475.29 crore as against Rs 544.25 crore.
