Pune's Spectrum updates offset operations with Komori Enthrone

This is the first brand new press for the commercial print firm. Having used Komori presses since 2005, Spectrum’s choice of the brand was obvious.

Vibhakar Vaidya, owner, Spectrum, said, “We have been using Komori machines for the last ten years. Our first Komori, a used machine, came in in 2005 and ​the ​second one in 2009. We have developed a comfort level for using Komori machines and are well aware of its capabilities. So the new machine had to be a Komori.”

“It seemed like an ideal system for us because 70% of the jobs we do are short runs. The run length might be between 500 and 2,000. So, a semi high-pile delivery was sufficient for our needs. That’s the reason ​why ​we opted for Enthrone,” added Vaidya.

The new machine, which was commissioned in November 2016, has replaced an old 28x40-inch five-colour press. It had relatively slow makeready and faced operational issues leading to high maintenance downtime.

Vaidya said, “With this new generation machine that is equipped with CIP4 and other automation, running an offset press has become hassle-free. The machine downtime for maintenance and technical hiccups during the day has been eliminated. Now the operator is able to concentrate on print quality.”

“In the last three months since the installation, we have been able to improve our service levels, deliver in time and accommodate more jobs. The Enthrone has enabled savings in power consumption and the productivity of the new press has surpassed that of our older presses combined.”
