"The packaging show, which concluded on 27 February, attracted around 5000 visitors in three days," informed Aditya Ashok of Intel Trade Fairs & Expositions.

Aditya said, “We are  happy with the number of visitors, and we could  attract new packaging users from various parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.”

“Though this is the first edition for PackPro as a destination for packaging and processing requirements, it is essentially a transformation of our brand Southpack which focussed on the packaging industry only (last held in 2012),” explained Aditya.

Major players at the show were end-of-line packaging solution providers, who exhibited form-fill-seal machines, coding and marking systems, labelling machines, glueing systems, pouching machines, etc.

Welbound, one of the busiest stalls in the exhibition wowed the visitors with their newly launched Hotcase 500 hot-melt glueing machine.

“After checking out several products for sealing, the visitors were both amused and impressed with our unique solution because of its tamper evident technology and transit strength of the carton along with the safety standards that is required especially for food-grade content,” said Shaktivel Nadar, area sales manager of Welbound.

Welbound signed up their first order in Chennai to with confectioner giants Adyar Ananda Bhavan and were a few in the exhibition to pick up on-spot orders.

First-time participant Automated Packaging Systems saw this as the perfect opportunity to test the waters in the southern market.

Talking about their experience and plan for the market, Priti Roychoudhury, manager of corporate marketing said, “We believe Chennai being the ‘Detroit of India’ is a potential market for our Autobag product which is useful for automobile part packaging industry. There is also a lot of enquiry for our AirPouch product line.”

“This exhibition also became the ideal platform to identify the right partner for our AirPouch product, and we have signed up Creative Packaging System as our distributor for Chennai,” added Priti.

Hilda automation with their packaging machinery for liquid and beverages industry occupied one of the biggest stalls in the exhibition with a live demonstration of several models of their filling and sealing machines.

IMA-PG India, USP Packaging Solutions and StarPac India were other key attraction in the exhibition. The show had several exhibitors restricting themselves to catalogue stalls and happy keeping it a ‘meet and greet’ opportunity.

“In our experience, we believe the decision making in this industry during the exhibition is limited. Thereby we took this opportunity to talk to our existing customers and initiate conversation with our prospective ones” said Ramesh C, business manager of Markem-Imaje, who have an installation base of over 2,000 machines in Tamilnadu.

The exhibition also saw companies like Condot missing in action after their initial listing as exhibitors. “It is unfortunate that Condot and a few others couldn’t make it because of issues in bringing in their machine for demonstration,” said Aditya.
