Green Printing Company of the Year: Lovely Offset Printers

A green strategy must focus on four key aspects – reduce pollution, conserve resources, conserve energy and reduce consumption and waste.

Lovely Offset, Sivakasi’s biggest print firm, follows a clear policy in using non-conventional energy, conservation, recycling, waste disposal, reduction of carbon foot print and training of employees in the above aspects.

The 56-year-old company, located on a 23-acre plot, has installed wind turbines with a capacity to generate 2000KW of energy. Plus the firm has installed a 100KW solar plant. The wind and solar energy generated currently meets most of the power requirement of the plant. There is a plan to install additional wind turbines to meet the entire power requirement.

Other initiatives at Lovely include the use of energy efficient fittings and consciously opting for energy-efficient equipment to conserve energy. This is reflected in the savings in the purchase of power. Water conservation and recycling is another aspect which is done religiously. The plant has an in-built sewage treatment plant, effluent treatment plants and a separate godown to collect paper waste.

The management’s future plans to increase plantations include creating a Miyawaki forest inside the campus. The Miyawaki method of afforestation/planting trees involves planting a number of different types of trees close together in a small pit, which enriches the green cover and reinforces the richness of the land.
