Six print firms set to gain colour accuracy with GMG tools

As Pantone and spot colours become mainstream, the need for colour output to be consistent is imperative. Taking the cue, print firms have started seeking colour standardisation and thus are investing in colour management tools. Priya Raju reviews six such print players who have entrusted GMG for their colour accuracy.

SRK Creatives
Mumbai-based SRK has opted for the complete bundle of software by GMG portfolio. This includes the GMG proofing modules for its design studio and ColorServer InkOptimizer modules for the press.

The GMG Color proof module helps the firms in getting the CMYK file from RGB, without major colour loss. Also, it gives a precise offset press prediction in the pre-press stage, which helps to judge whether there is a requirement in the retouching activities.

While the GMG ColorServer InkOptimizer combined module ensures that the best out of incoming file is delivered from pre-press to the press with 12% savings on ink. This ensures that the output is delivered with minimal efforts.

Metro Printers
Being in the hub of textile fashion catalogue, accurate colour reproduction is inevitable for Surat-based Metro Printers. For this, the firm has opted for the GMG ColorServer InkOptimizer.

Das Damodharan, technical sales manager, Percept Printing Solutions informs, “The firm required precision in their results and today with the assistance of GMG they are able to achieve the same.”

This Surat-based design studio’s major chunk of business forms the textile fashion catalogue. Das says, “The challenge was to get the fabric match with the offset prints. This required their file conversions, retouching, and proofing to be standardised.” Hence, the firm has invested in the GMG Color proof software. Today, Percept Solution has been successful in implementing this software in 18 design studios in the same belt so far.

Dainik Bhaskar
Dainik Bhaskar uses the GMG ColorServer InkOptimizer for four units across states which include - Bhopal, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Panipat from past one year. Das says, “Post-Drupa, Dainik Bhaskar has placed an order for two additional units in Patna and Aurangabad. This was after assurance about the committed ink savings and quality improvement from the above mentioned units.”

Uflex, one of the giants in flexible packaging solution has opted for the GMG colour management software for Its new unit at Ahmedabad. In addition to this, the company has upgraded all the existing licenses for GMG proofing module which has been the back bone of the colour management workflow. Das says, “The upgraded version ensures the calibrated set of newly added Pantone's and smother functioning, in the case of multiple printers defined in a single front end.” Moreover, the firm has also opted for the Color Plugin – the newly launched product by GMG at Drupa. The Color Plugin is a photoshop plugin and which helps to remove the unwanted channel in a particular image, applying GCR curves or press profiles on PSD files, selected images or viewing and setting minimum dot in the flexo and gravure process.

Karnataka-based Udayavani, a newspaper daily has opted for the GMG ColorServer InkOptimizer. Udayavani, a part of Manipal Group opted for GMG after assurance from its sister concern the Manipal Technologies. Das informs, “Manipal technologies being a user of GMG products gave confidence for the group’s newspaper firm to opt for GMG when suggested.”
