According to eyewitnesses, the accused, accompanied by a dozen or so of his friends, arrived at the shopfloor and started abusing the press workers, before ransacking the premises and opening fire. While they managed to escape before the arrival of the police, their escapades have been recorded in a CCTV camera at the shop.

According to Rohit Gaud, owner of the press, the student leader Praveen Singh Yadav alias Rahul had given him the order for banners three days back, but he did not give an advance. Now, he wanted to get his job done, and he fired the shot to intimidate the printer.

The elections for the students union of the University of Allahabad are about to begin and according to a source, the banners pertained to the same election.

During the evening on Thursday, the workers were busy when the accused, along with his friends, barged into the premises and asked the workers whether the banners were ready. When the workers told him to ask the owner of the shop about this, Yadav allegedly got angry and started ransacking the shopfloor. When the press workers tried to stop him, he brandished a pistol and opened fire, before leaving.

The Civil Lines police have lodged an FIR and search for the accused is on.
