His presentation was part of the session on ‘Innovations in flexible packaging’. As one speaker after the other spoke about the importance of reducing food waste by devising technologies to enhance the shelf life of the pack, Poddar’s presentation struck a chord with the packed gathering wanting to learn and collaborate on new innovations in this space.

Apart from introducing the company’s comprehensive portfolio of transparent, metallised and anti-fog barrier films, Poddar’s presentation also addressed the need for laminate structure rationalisation and how these films can facilitate the transition.

Cosmo Films’ range of barrier films includes transparent films, which are aroma barrier films for coffee/tea and spices packaging; high oxygen barrier films for biscuits packaging and high oxygen and aroma barrier films for ready-to-eat pack applications. In metallised films, the company has high moisture barrier films for sandwich lamination in shampoo sachets, dry milk powder and powdered drinks sachets/packs where loss of moisture is a concern; high moisture barrier with high seal strength films for bulk packs needing moisture barrier and ultra high barrier films for foods with fatty contents such as dry fruits, chips, cream biscuits packs, etc.

The company also makes anti-fog films which extend the shelf life of fresh-cut vegetables/fruits and meat packs that need to be refrigerated in sub-zero temperatures by additional 4-7 days while also lending hot and cold anti-fog properties.

“We are focused on addressing the unmet needs of the industry and our latest range of barrier films addresses the most important of them all – enhanced shelf life and laminate structure rationalisation,” said Poddar in his presentation.

Established in 1981, Cosmo Films is the largest exporter of BOPP films from India and is also the largest producer of thermal laminating films in the world with plant cum distribution centres in the US, Korea and Japan and global channel partners in more than fifty countries.
