VeePee Arts' Jai Prakash, said, "The Kodak Flexcel NX System offers us the distinct advantage of true "flattop dots" - a standard that the industry increasingly desires. Kodak SquareSpot imaging technology powers the advantage of producing very high-quality imaging. Not only does it boost the final output, but also leads to a faster plate-making process. Add to this the ability to hold even dots as small as 0.04% on the plate, and we eliminate all dot bumps or plate variability that is commonly seen with LAMS technology. Special screening technology also helps in rendering highlight dots, giving perfect vanishing vignettes."

The Flexcel NX system at Veepee can leverage Kodak's SquareSpot imaging technology at an optical resolution of 10,000dpi to produce digital flexo plates that enable a broader tonal range, use of higher line screens, more efficient ink transfer and a higher level of quality.

As per a PrintWeek India study of pre-press bureaus, the Flexcel benefits Indian firms whose focus is mainly on packaging with foils, cartons, aluminum, etc, plus those firms who are adding more printing on its paper for the secondary packaging market, including corrugated.

One user informed us, "The Kodak Flexcel NX digital flexographic system uses the thermal imaging layer in conjunction with flexo plates. This layer is exposed on a Trendsetter NX imager with Kodak SquareSpot imaging technology. After imaging, it is laminated to a Kodak Flexcel NX digital flexographic plate using the Kodak Flexcel NX laminator. The quick and simple lamination process removes all oxygen between the layer and the plate and results in the creation of high-quality, full amplitude, flattop dots."

This is the business which Veepee hopes to expand, by working across a variety of print applications like label printing, corrugation, and board printing with the addition of the Flexcel system. The benefit for customers will be an exceptional quality of print using digital flexo technology that is comparable to gravure, without the limitations that come with analog and existing LAMS plates.

Veepee is combining the Kodak Flexcel NX System with the Kodak Prinergy Workflow. The integration of Prinergy into their operation will help Veepee "reduce production errors, enhance productivity, achieve outstanding flexibility, accept all popular file formats and manage proofing devices, digital presses, and CTP systems directly. The software is customised to ensure that Veepee handles specific trapping and colour requirements from its customers.

The company's heritage of investing in print innovations began when it became a pioneer in the market making photopolymer blocks for customers.

The investment in Kodak's Flexcel NX System is being seen as a continuation of the company's tradition of being a market leader. A combination of advanced plate surface patterning technology and advanced highlight imaging techniques made possible by the unique nature of Kodak SquareSpot imaging technology is a significant step forward in print quality across all graphic elements of a package while simultaneously driving print production cost savings.

Abraham Prabhakar, the vice president of Micro 3D Printing & Packaging, Kodak India Cluster, said: "Today's ultra-competitive market demands improved print quality with shorter run lengths and faster turnaround times. Veepee Art is a pioneer in the market and transformational technology like Flexcel NX fits perfectly with their focus on exceeding their customers' expectations for print quality and service excellence. There is no question they will be producing the most exceptional plate quality in the market."
