Textile industry mega trade show opens today

The 2016 edition of India ITME (International Textile Machinery Exhibitions) begins today (3 December) at Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.

The six-day event boasts of 1,050+ exhibitors from 38 countries and expects 1,50,000 visitors. Of the 11 exhibiting halls, Hall 5 and 2A house textile printing companies with top players like EFI Reggiani, SPG Prints, Insight representing Mimaki, and MS Printing Solutions among others.

The show has very strong presence from prestigious institutes in India and overseas, including The Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences, Bhiwani (TIT), DKTE Society's Textile & Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (ICT), The Textile Institute of UK, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), and others.

According to the organisers, the textile industry contributes 11% of total Indian exports. India’s overall textile exports during FY 2015-16 stood at USD 40 billion and the industry is expected to reach USD 223 billion by 2021.

“The industry being the second largest employer after agriculture, it is utmost necessary that Indian textile machine manufacturing industry has to strengthen its base for quality output accepted at international level. India is now developing in multi folds in most of the sectors especially in the spinning machinery manufacturing segments,” said an ITME press release.

The once-in-four-years exhibition will also witness the launch of 24 products over six days besides discussions, knowledge sharing, profiling of artisans, photography exhibition, and a host of other activities.
