SBM Print Media goes for concentric diversification

Established in 1950 as a paper trading company called Sharda Trading Co, which later emerged to SBM Industries & a subsidiary SBM Print Media, the company has recently gone for concentric diversification by launching a specialised warehousing and logistic facility within the same area near its printing operations are located. This facility will be focused to provide storage and logistic services to publishers or book distributors.

The company has also dared to do massive expansion during the ongoing Covid period while moving to a newly-developed space of 3-lakh sqf in Rai Industrial Area in Haryana.

The company is originally known for its gigantic infrastructure involved in print services like book printing, diaries and calendar manufacturing and other related activities.

Sanjay Gupta, founding and experienced member of SBM group, said, “We have expanded the area and machinery to meet increasing demand for print production in both domestic and export markets.”

The dynamic and spirited CEO, Saurabh Gupta, added, “We are ready to offer storage/warehouse services integrated with world class WMS (warehousing management system), especially developed to sort all existing obstacles of distribution businesses or services, mainly in the book industry.

The company has established two new units in Rai Industrial Area, on Delhi-Chandigarh highway adjoining Delhi border near the biggest transport hub, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. The total area of both the plants is approximately 4-lakh sqft and the individual area of the plants is 1.5 and 2.5-lakh sqft for warehouse and print division respectively.

Gupta said the expansion will give the company the opportunity to produce more and serve its customers better and fast. “We have freshly inducted almost around Rs 30 crore in our recent expansion programme,” he added.

SBM Industries, the parent company of SBM Print Media, owns stationary brands like Global, Smart, Easymate and others, widely distributed in India through its channel partners located in all the major cities. These names are well-known for their wide range in writable instruments and promotional products like diaries, notebooks, calendars, registers, student exercise books and others.

The company has a battery of Heidelberg pre-owned printing presses in the current 250,000-sqft constructed area. The binding unit is equipped with three automatic Kolbus case-making machines with round corner integration; automatic Kolbus casing inline BF 40; more than ten sewing machines; two Aster polygraph automatic sewing machines; two automatic Muller Martini six stations flow lines; seven four-fold Stahl folding machines; fully automatic Polar cutting machines, and others.

The capacity is almost 40-tonnes of paper conversion on daily basis. The company can currently produce and finish almost 60,000 books daily through offset printing and soft cover binding. Their hard case facility can also handle production of 50,000 units within turnaround time of 24 hours.

A team of more than 300 people works in round-the-clock operation.
