The Pressman Center for Print Excellence is the new vertical of Pressman Solutions, started by K Panthala Selvan, proprietor of Pressman Solutions in Chennai. The facility includes a five-colour Mitsubishi offset printing machine and a programmable cutting machine.

The center is a learn-by-doing facility, where candidates learn by doing the work.

The programme has been designed with a curriculum to help the candidates understand the theoretical concepts first and then practically apply them during the production process.

The programme has four modules — maintenance; materials; machine operation and measurements.

The maintenance module includes machine parts, understanding parts functionality, periodical maintenance, marking the maintenance parts, feeding test, inking unit test, dampening unit test, printing test, roller settings, and xero settings, among others.

The materials module includes types of raw materials, raw water, fount solution, IPA, IPA substitute, washes, paper and board, ink and coatings, blanket, packing sheet, and others.

The machine operation module includes pre-makeready, makeready, print approval, and others.

The machine measurements module includes measurement with a densitometer, spectrophotometer, plate reader, and so on.

Selvan said the programme is suitable for freshers entering into the offset print industry to take over family printing businesses or consumable sales or support executives, assistant printers, printing diploma or graduate students, quality department executives, and other stream students who wish to pursue the offset industry.

Besides the offset printing programme, Pressman Center for Print Excellence also offers other training programmes, such as G7 expert, PQM, colour management, packaging developments, ink kitchen management, print quality evaluations programmes, consumable testing, and undertake research projects.
