MBD group celebrates its ninth Founder’s Day

For the last nine years, the MBD group, which is into education book publishing as well as hospitality industry, celebrates the birth anniversary of its founder Ashok Kumar Malhotra, as Founder’s Day. This year, the 74th birth anniversary of Ashok Kumar Malhotra was celebrated on 10 July 2019.

The theme of the 9th Founder's Day was ‘touching lives, keeping in mind with Malhotra belief in empowering rather than charity. Malhotra worked against impossible odds and limited resources, but never lacked motivation, belief, determination, and humility. He also had a dream to make MBD a super brand.

Malhotra started working at the family book shop, Malhotra Book Depot, while he was still in school. A first-generation entrepreneur who embarked on his journey of books at the age of 13, he authored and published General Education, his first book, with an initial seed capital of Rs 1 lakh.

Under his guidance and leadership, MBD has grown in the six decades of its existence, not only in the field of education but also in hospitality, retail developments and much more. A keen innovator, he remained focused on people-centric growth, right access and opportunities.

On this occasion, Satish Bala Malhotra, chairperson, MBD Group, said, “We, at MBD, always believe in leveraging the brand legacy, as this provides credibility and legitimacy to the group’s initiatives. Malhotra strongly believed in equality and made conscientious efforts towards the empowerment of the less privileged. MBD makes a meaningful contribution to the society within which we live and work. Monica Malhotra Kandhari, MD, MBD, said, “All these years, MBDians embraced social causes with fervour and extended helping hand to the needy. We are truly passionate about undertaking initiatives for betterment of the society and environment. This year, we carried out activities related to education, scholarships, cleanliness drives, mid-day meals, skill trainings and much more that helps in making the community a better place to live in. Moreover, through the Ashok Malhotra Charitable Trust, MBD extends its support to projects like ‘Empowering girl child with education’, ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ and many more.”
